Editor (Full-time, 1 position)

We’re starting with the Editor role. Foodthink currently has three editors, but we often also find ourselves supporting a growing number of other projects. So we’ve decided to bring another pair of hands into the editorial team!

Key responsibilities

1. Plan and deliver story ideas, including commissioning, editing, image selection, layout and proofreading;

2. Interview and write some pieces, and translate and edit English-language articles;

3. Identify new contributors and help run the contributor community;

4. Support Foodthink’s other work, such as organising public events, visiting farms and arranging industry conferences

We’re looking for

1. The ability to research, report and write independently, with some writing and editing experience (please include relevant work in your CV);

2. A strong interest in agriculture, food, the environment, rural development and related issues; relevant study or work experience would be a bonus;

3. Good written English and reading skills

Communications & Media Operations (Full-time, 1 position)

Foodthink often hears from readers: you’ve got such great content, more people really ought to see it. While we’re grateful for the encouragement, we’ve also realised that, compared with content production, communications and outreach are where Foodthink is weakest.

Foodthink came of age during the heyday of WeChat official accounts, but we now face a very different media landscape. Since last year, we’ve also started experimenting with podcasts as a new medium. Our frequent contact with mainstream media over the past few years has also shown us that even the big players are under pressure to reinvent themselves. So we’re hoping to bring in a more experienced colleague to lead our communications work. If you’re confident you have the skills for it, we’d love to hear from you.

Key responsibilities

1. Develop media and communications strategies, mainly covering written content, podcasts, and online and offline events (book clubs, sharing sessions, harvest celebrations, etc.);

2. Monitor relevant media developments, make recommendations for content production, and help shape related work plans;

3. Maintain media relationships and promote Foodthink’s content externally;

4. Handle Foodthink’s day-to-day backend administration and community communications;

5. Help plan Foodthink’s sector media products, such as briefings and news updates

We’re looking for

1. Experience in media, communications or new media operations, ideally in print or text-based media;

2. Familiarity with how content travels online, and good instincts for social and food-and-farming trends;

3. Regularly follow media related to food and agriculture, public interest and similar fields, with a good feel for language;

4. Strong planning skills and learning ability, with the flexibility to adapt to work across different media;

5. A solid foundation in English

Project Officer (Lianhe Programme)

Alongside original articles and podcasts, Foodthink also wants to support people working in sustainable agriculture — that’s where the Lianhe Programme comes in. Over the past few years, we’ve launched three rounds of small grants. Since 2021, we’ve also run two rounds of an ecological agriculture internship programme, helping young people who want to work in ecological farming find suitable farms.

We’re now also openly recruiting a Project Officer for the Lianhe Programme. If you’d like to travel around the country and work with practitioners in ecological agriculture, this role could be a great fit for you.

Key responsibilities

1. Maintain close communication with partners involved in the Lianhe Programme;

2. Plan activities within the programme and deliver them with other team members;

3. Participate in project fundraising;

4. Complete the documentation required for the programme

We’re looking for

1. A strong interest in sustainable agriculture, food, the environment, rural development and related issues, ideally with relevant study or work experience;

2. Friendly and approachable, able to build good relationships with different kinds of organisations and individuals;

3. Project management experience preferred;

4. Able to travel for work

Project Officer (Climate Change)

Since 2021, Foodthink has been closely tracking the impact of climate change on agriculture. We also hope that sustainable agriculture’s positive contribution to tackling climate change will gain wider recognition in China. What role should Foodthink play in this? We want to imagine the future of our climate change work together with a new Project Officer.

Key responsibilities

1. Take responsibility for Foodthink’s climate change-related projects;

2. Participate in the design and fundraising of climate change projects;

3. Write articles and reports on agriculture and climate change;

4. Represent the organisation externally at various meetings and events

We’re looking for

1. Familiarity with climate change, food systems and related issues, with strong expertise in the field;

2. Previous relevant work experience in the climate change field;
